Aldea operates a permanent studio floor on the seventh storey of C. Sundts gate 55, beside the gallery and the building's shared workshops. Six private studios are let on annual contracts to artists, designers, composers, writers and researchers working in or close to Bergen. The studios are unfurnished rooms — each between fourteen and twenty-two square metres, with daylight on at least one side, and a shared kitchen and meeting room at the centre of the floor.
The intention is straightforward: to keep a small group of practitioners in the building so the gallery, the workshops and the public programme are surrounded, day by day, by people making work. Members let themselves in around the clock, share the print room and the wet-room, and use the gallery for crits and intermediate showings between exhibitions.
Studios are advertised when a member moves on — usually once or twice a year — through an open call announced on the Aldea newsletter and circulated to the wider Vestland artist community. There is no rolling waiting list. A modest monthly rent covers the room, utilities, broadband, twenty-four-hour access and use of the shared facilities below.
The current cohort of six studio members is listed below, followed by the practitioners who have held studios at C. Sundts gate 55 over the past decade.
